i want to be the roadrunner

i want to be the roadrunner

scamping by beneath the yucca

the yucca towering into the electric blue banner

of heaven

cantankerous cumulous only crawling past

our summer we shall never surrender

and never ends

her lustrous hair falls

as silver sultry

cascading light

the sand blows through

and white glowing mountains of desert air

breathe fresh life into me

no matter the ail

all of the most green cactus

creeping up out of the dust trodden roadways

this way

for the roadrunners' way

dash and ramble

crimson and gold and blue and earth

you could drown in this effervescent space

hills and mountains this austere place

someone speaks

coyote glances out from his den

and on the horizon climb

temples of water and thunder

they've come to clear (t)his dastardly dust

coyote clears his voice

and sings in time

with the aroma of creosote and

vocals afar

desert shadows only

hopping from underneath creature forms

reveal that they were people too

or are

dash across the thrilling expanses

dance to the rising lune

sing for the voiceless yet saturated with thoughts

i am the roadrunner

as i cross this place
